  • Graduate Internships: Intervention Tutors (£20.00 an hour)

    Thu 12 Nov 2020

    Cirencester Deer Park School is seeking to recruit a temporary team of intervention tutors to work and learn alongside teachers and pupils for 12 weeks from Monday 4 January 2021 to Thursday 1 April 2021. This will help pupils to recover lost, and staff to introduce new knowledge, strengthen understanding and accelerate pupils’ progress.

    Deer Park is specifically looking to recruit graduates in the STEM subjects, English, Humanities, Languages and Computer Science, but central to all of the roles will be the ability to communicate and model transferrable independent learning skills.

    The school is aware that the pandemic has had a profound affect on everyone and, in particular, on young people’s learning and life chances at 16, 18 and 22! We do not want any of our pupils within the Corinium Education Trust to be disadvantaged. Deer Park are committed to helping their pupils achieve more than they first think is possible and, therefore, the school plans to invest the government’s catch up funding in these new graduate internships.

    We recognise it is hard for many graduates to find employment at the present time and we are therefore offering new graduates the opportunity to join the team at Deer Park as temporary interns. This is a reciprocal proposition:

    The school’s pupils will benefit from

    • Personalised tuition tailored to our curriculum and their present studies;
    • Face to face interventions and bespoke support;
    • Working alongside recent graduates, inspirational and positive role models;
    • The additional time and attention given to them and their learning;
    • Improved learning and life chances, including better grades!

    If appointed our interns will benefit from

    • Participating in training and becoming a member of our new team;
    • Gaining rich and diverse work experience;
    • Engaging in purposeful and precisely targeted activities;
    • Sharing your specialist knowledge and understanding of how to learn effectively;
    • Seeing the impact of your work in the progress pupils you tutor make;
    • Working flexibly in school and online for around 25 hours a week;
    • Earning £20.00 an hour and securing a reference for future employment;
    • Being able to demonstrate the contribution you made in spite of COVID-19!

    For more information about these innovative internships in education at Deer Park and how to apply, please go to the Deer Park Vacancies page and read the job description and person specification.

    We plan to offer successful applicants two weeks’ training from Monday 7 December 2020 at Cirencester Deer Park School to ensure all of our interns are ready to start in January. Payment for the successful completion of this training will be made in January if applicants return to work for us for the period of the internship.

    The deadline for applications is 9.00am Tuesday 24 November 2020 and interviews are provisionally scheduled to take place in the week beginning Monday 30 November 2020.

    The Corinium Education Trust is committed to the safeguarding of our pupils, and employment will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and receipt of satisfactory references.

  • Vacancy: Director of Finance and Operations

    Mon 02 Nov 2020

    Following the decision of the current postholder to retire in the Spring 2021, we are seeking to appoint a new Director of Finance and Operations.

    Martin Doidge, Director of Finance, was originally appointed to the post of Director of Support at Cirencester Deer Park School in 2003. This was an innovative post at a time of school workforce reform, and he fulfilled a critical leadership role combining finance with other administrative functions. Over the last 18 years, Martin has made a significant contribution to the development of the school and, more recently, he has been instrumental in the inception and growth of The Corinium Education Trust.

    When Martin first joined the team at Deer Park, he had no experience of working in education. However, as a qualified accountant, he was able to bring the wealth of his experience in transport to the team and very quickly accrued the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively in the education sector. Martin established himself as a leader in this field; he has contributed to the training and development of School Business Managers and was first an Executive Member, and then Chair of, the local network, the Gloucestershire Association of School Business Managers.

    ‘I have loved working at Cirencester Deer Park School, and latterly The Corinium Education Trust, and I would not have stayed for 18 years if there wasn’t always something new to deal with and provide a challenge. I am very proud of what we have achieved here, but there is still plenty to do to provide a continuing challenge for my successor. I am sure he or she will enjoy the role every bit as much as I have.’ Martin Doidge.

    Chiquita Henson, Chief Executive, will be working closely with Trustees to recruit Martin’s replacement: ‘While we are looking for an experienced strategic financial leader and qualified accountant to manage operations and help us move The Corinium Education Trust into and through the next phase of our growth and development, we also want to make sure there is sufficient variety and challenge in the role to motivate, interest and engage our new postholder!’

    While The Corinium Education Trust is a relatively new and small multi-academy trust in the South Cotswolds in Gloucestershire, we are an ambitious organisation. The Trust is currently made up of one secondary and three local primary schools. We also have DfE approval to open a new 3 form entry presumption free school on a new housing development in Cirencester within the next five years.

    A key objective of The Corinium Education Trust is to undertake considered expansion over the next five years, growing to 7-10 schools. Therefore, we are looking for someone who:

    • shares our values and is committed to making The Corinium Education Trust as effective as it can be for the children, families and staff we serve;
    • is capable of the delivery of timely and sustainable central services to our schools and ensuring these are of a high standard;
    • will realise the efficiencies arising from four schools working collaboratively within the Trust and find new opportunities to bring more funds into the Trust.

    This is an exciting time to join The Corinium Education Trust. We hope that suitably qualified and experienced candidates will consider furthering their careers with us and take the opportunity to join us on our journey and, as the successful applicant develops in his/her role, he/she will contribute to our future development and help us improve the learning and life chances of our children and young people. In return we offer:

    • A community of like-minded professionals committed to working collaboratively in the best interests of our pupils and to bring about school improvement;
    • The opportunity to engage in MAT-wide teams and contribute to shaping our future. An induction programme for new staff and support to help you develop as a leader;
    • Cross-phase research and evidence-based continuing professional development;
    • Access to InCET, our virtual staff room that enables teachers and leaders across The Corinium Education Trust to engage in professional discussion, moderate and liaise with each other;
    • Talent identification and comprehensive skills development;
    • Career progression and the opportunity to develop further as teachers and/or leaders in one or more of our schools over time.

  • School Library

    Mon 02 Nov 2020

    At the end of Term 1 Siddington C of E Primary School received the wonderful news that they had the available funds to proceed with a much-anticipated school library.

    Initially, the project was proposed to the school PTA at their annual general meeting.  They began fundraising with enthusiasm. Their efforts have meant that the building, set aside for the library space, can now be decorated, and fitted out with suitable shelving.  A Siddington school parent has kindly offered to paint the walls and the children will be creating a mural to complete this stage of the project.

    Additional generous donations from parents and a sponsored read over the half term break has ensured that school staff can purchase the books needed to develop the school’s culture of reading for pleasure. Katie Cook, Headteacher: ‘We want to provide a range of fiction and non-fiction books that the children may otherwise not have access to.’

    The school staff will work alongside the pupils to choose subjects that they are interested in and want to read about. The school will also provide books in the library that enhance what the children have been learning about in class, giving them opportunities to be curious and develop the skill of ‘reading to learn’.

    ‘This has been a real school community effort. The teachers wanted to offer a library that would enrich the curriculum and develop the breadth of reading materials available at the school. Parents have really supported us in bringing the project together. We cannot wait to see the children making use of the space.’ Katie Cook, Headteacher.

    Over the next twelve months the school will continue to raise funds to develop the library space further.

    ‘This is a really exciting development for the school and represents a real community effort. The new library will definitely help put reading at the heart of the curriculum. I know this is very important to Katie Cook, Headteacher and her staff.’  Chiquita Henson, Chief Executive
