Across The Corinium Education Trust pupils of all ages are inspired by their peers and the success of sportsmen and women, individually and in teams.

The staff and children at Siddington C of E Primary School were delighted to welcome Phoebe Pine, a former Cirencester Deer Park School pupil, who is now a world class Paralympian, into school on Monday 1 April 2019. Phoebe lives in Siddington and so it was a double treat!
 
Phoebe is an archer, and a member of the Deer Park Archers team (no connection to Deer Park school, despite the name!) as well as representing England in the sport. Phoebe uses a compound bow and she showed us how it is weighted to help her balance and how the string has cogs to help her draw it. Phoebe sits to shoot and it was fascinating to learn how she manages. In an inspirational sports assembly, Phoebe showed the children a clip on YouTube of when she gained a bronze medal with her team mate and shooting partner John.

‘The World Para-Archery Championships in Beijing ended in style today as Paralympic double champion John Walker and our own Phoebe Pine added compound mixed team bronze to Britain’s medals haul. Phoebe is aiming to represent Great Britain again in 2020 and hopes to go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. We wish her every success! Furthermore, owing to the inspiration she provides, Phoebe has been invited back to Cirencester Deer Park School as guest speaker at the school’s Year 9 Key Stage 3 Celebration of Achievement on Thursday 9 May 2019.  

In the first week of April, the PE Faculty at Cirencester Deer Park School led the school’s sports assemblies. This year, as a demonstration of resilience, they chose the endeavours of local man Jamie MacDonald, aka ‘Adventureman’, who recently completed a fundraising, coast to coast, 5,500 mile run across the United States of America ending in Gloucester Massachusetts. Pupils were invited to take inspiration from his story and during these assemblies, pupils were awarded their sports’ Colours and, as a part of the celebration, they learnt who Deer Park’s very own sports personalities of the year were! The Deer Park Year 8 Talent ID pupils had a fantastic time at Twickenham Stadium, the home of England Rugby, on Thursday 21 March 2019 watching the NatWest School Rugby Finals. They were extremely fortunate to see some incredible rugby from the top sporting schools in the country and watched both Under 15 matches and one Under 18 match. Our congratulations also go to Harry, who is in Year 6 at Chesterton Primary School.  He has gained a place at Cheltenham College for September on a scholarship and he was asked by the college to lead out the Gloucester Rugby team on Saturday 30 March 2019, an opportunity that has fuelled his aspiration!

Harry writes: ‘On Saturday my family and I went on a trip to Kingsholm Stadium, also known as Gloucester Rugby Club. It wasn’t just an ordinary day or normal rugby fixture as I was lucky enough to have been asked to be the team’s mascot. This meant running a lap of honour and leading the team onto the pitch with the captain in front of 16,000 people to play a Wasp’s side full of its returning international players, which was really exhilarating. I was given a full Gloucester kit and seats above the player’s tunnel as well as a tour of the changing rooms! We had wonderful weather and it was a great day of rugby especially with Gloucester winning. This experience has just made me more determined to be the captain of England one day, leading out the team!’

The Corinium Education Trust’s four schools are all in close proximity to Chesterton Farm and this will help us work collaboratively to support the development and growth of the new primary school:

If successful in our application, the Corinium Education Trust plans to work with Gloucestershire County Council and the developers to accommodate and grow the new school initially on one of our existing school sites from 2021 before moving it into the new purpose-built school on the Chesterton Farm Development in 2023.
