September Official Launch

Date for the diary - Official Launch on Friday 14 September 2018

After two years of careful planning The Corinium Education Trust finally came into existence on Sunday 1 April 2018. We are a new, ambitious and growing family of schools committed to improving the learning and life chances of children and young people in Cirencester and the South Cotswolds.

We have embarked on an exciting journey and this started in April 2016, when Cirencester Deer Park School hosted a conference for over 80 local headteachers and Chairs of Governors and we had the opportunity to hear and learn from the experience of other Multi-Academy Trusts and representatives from the Regional Commissioner’s Office. Following this and other smaller group meetings with local headteachers, Carol Dougill, Executive Headteacher of Kemble and Siddington Primary Schools, and Chiquita Henson, Headteacher of Cirencester Deer Park School, with their respective Chairs of Governors decided to form a robust collaborative partnership. We successfully gained approval from the South West Headteacher Board and the Regional Schools Commissioner to form a local multi-academy trust in November 2017, applied to sponsor Chesterton Primary School in February 2018 and secured a grant from the MAT development and improvement fund.

The Corinium Education Trust is a dynamic and evolving organisation and new members, like Karen Venner, Headteacher of Chesterton Primary School, have the opportunity to contribute to its leadership and development. We are creating capacity, providing support for and challenging each other. We are keen to identify and share best practice to address local issues and enhance the educational provision for all of our learners. Graham Russell, Chair of the Trustees, is clear about our shared goals: ‘We are united in our view that when schools work together then they can achieve so much more.’

To mark the official launch of The Corinium Education Trust we are inviting representatives from other local schools in the South Cotswolds to join us on Friday 14 September 2018 from 2.30-4.00pm at Cirencester Deer Park School.

Dame Fiona Reynolds, Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge and Patron of The Corinium Education Trust, will officially launch The Corinium Education Trust at 2.30pm prior to a short welcome and reception in the school’s main hall. We are also hoping that Peter Reed, three times Olympic gold medallist and former Deer Park pupil will then formally open Deer Park’s new suite of 8 classrooms following a successful CIF bid in 2016-17.

Furthermore, Hannah Woodhouse, Deputy Director at the Regional Schools’ Commissioner’s Office, has kindly agreed to lead a seminar for interested school leaders and governors before this at Cirencester Deer Park School from 1.30pm. She will update headteachers and governors on the priorities for the South West and respond to any questions colleagues may wish to raise.

We are very open to working together in partnership with other schools and if you and your Chair of Governors would like to find out more about our plans to develop school leaders, support teacher development and bring about wider school improvement, Graham Russell, Chair of Trustees and/or Chiquita Henson, Chief Executive, would be very pleased to meet with you informally to discuss how you and your school can become involved.
